Bird Beaks

Last week in science we did a bird beak challenge experiment.  Here is a description from Ms. Svedlund:

Once the students stepped inside the classroom, they became birds. At each of five stations there was a food source (seeds, worms, small fish, zooplankton, or nectar) and there were three types of tools, or “beaks”, to test to “consume” the food. Students rotated around the lab to each station and the challenge was to determine which “beak” type was best for the food source. We first discussed examples of birds with different types of bird beak, and then talked about that beaks are adaptations that allow a bird to perform a certain function and allow them to thrive in their environment.
